Athlete of the Month – Nikki M.

Everyone has seen Nikki coming into the gym in a whirlwind of kids, clothes, and workout gear, but amid all of that we have seen a level of dedication to fitness that is rare to find. So we caught Nikki mid workout to find out a little bit more about here before her next deadline, and this is what she told us.

Tell us about yourself.

I am a 36 year old mother of three and I have been here for two years. I started working out again at 33, before that I was a runner…. that didn’t run. My brother told me at a cookout that I was a ‘former athlete’, which ignited my fire within.

I wanted to show him that I still am an athlete. I started powerlifting and I wanted to try CrossFit and found SS&C.

What made you want to start CrossFIt?

I had always talked about CrossFit, my brother had a few friends that came here, and I lived close so I stopped in.

What is your proudest moment at Strategic?

When Coach B talked me into doing the Supertotal. I was so nervous, but I did it and left. After I left I found out I won! I was soo surprised and so happy.

Favorite WOD?

Kelly, because I hate that workout so much! I love that is challenges me so, ya know.

Favorite cheat meal?

Pizza has always been my favorite, that and ice cream.

What do you enjoy most about being at Strategic?

A lot. It made me more confident. I never trusted that I would be able to weight lift or be in the gym. I’m proud of what I can accomplish.

What is one thing about you that not a lot of people know about?

I love to sing LOUD and dance when I clean. It’s super embarrassing when my boyfriend or family hear and see me, but I love doing it.

What advice would give to someone thinking about joining?

Give it time and it will probably be one of the best decisions you’ve made in your life.

Anything else you would like to add?

I am very, very grateful for the people and coaches I have in the gym. It has gotten me through so much physically and mentally – even if I come to the gym in a bad mood or having a bad day. I leave smiling and laughing. This is the best place with the best people.
